Diabetes has long been known as a "silent killer" because it can lead to a variety of chronic complications throughout the body. Studies indicate that there are approximately 114 million people with diabetes in my country, meaning roughly one in ten adults has the condition. A 23-year follow-up study in my country showed that people with diabetes die 10 years earlier than those with normal blood sugar levels.

Be wary of these 7 signs that may be caused by diabetes.

1. Frequent hunger and increased food intake. Because the body's sugar is excreted as urinary glucose, the food consumed is insufficient to maintain the body's required calories, leading to a constant feeling of hunger. As a result, patients eat large amounts of food but still feel ravenous. People who don't usually eat sweets may start consuming large quantities of them. If you experience these symptoms, you should consider whether you have diabetes and seek medical attention promptly.

2. Frequent symptoms such as numbness and tremors in the hands and feet. Diabetic patients often experience numbness and tremors in the hands and feet, clumsy finger movements and intermittent pain, severe neuropathic foot pain, lower limb paralysis, back pain, reluctance to walk, nocturnal leg cramps, oculomotor nerve paralysis, blurred vision in one eye and the other, and autonomic nerve disorders.

3. Eye fatigue, or even decreased vision. Eye fatigue, a rapid decline in vision, blurred vision, temporary blackouts when standing, sudden onset of nearsightedness, or presbyopia are all clear signs of vision problems, retinal hemorrhage, cataracts, and accommodative disorders caused by diabetes.

4. Diabetic patients may experience a rapid loss of weight. If you experience a rapid and unexplained loss of weight, you should consider the possibility of diabetes and seek medical attention promptly.

5. Dry mouth and tongue. Thirst is a typical symptom of early-stage diabetes. If someone who doesn't usually drink much water suddenly finds themselves constantly carrying a water glass, be careful; it could be an early sign of diabetes.

6. Constipation and diarrhea are early symptoms of diabetes. One characteristic is that diarrhea is followed by constipation, and then constipation is followed by diarrhea, and so on in a cycle. If diarrhea and constipation occur alternately, it may be an early symptom of diabetes, and it is best to go to the hospital for diagnosis as soon as possible.

7. Frequent eye problems. Decreased vision, sudden onset of retinal diseases, etc., are all characteristic symptoms of early-stage diabetes.
