The effects of Ophiopogon japonicus:
It nourishes Yin and generates fluids, moistens the lungs and clears the heart.
It is used for dry cough due to lung dryness, consumptive cough, thirst due to fluid depletion, irritability and insomnia, internal heat and thirst, constipation due to intestinal dryness, and diphtheria.

Combined with Adenophora stricta and Fritillaria cirrhosa, it can treat dry cough due to lung yin deficiency.
The effects of Ophiopogon japonicus:
1. For treating heatstroke and exhaustion due to excessive sweating, use 10 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus and ginseng, and 6 grams of Schisandra chinensis, decocted in water and taken twice daily. It is effective for heatstroke and exhaustion, palpitations, low blood pressure, excessive sweating and thirst, and fatigue.
2. For treating constipation due to intestinal dryness, use 15 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus, Rehmannia glutinosa, and Scrophularia ningpoensis. Decoct in water and take one dose daily. This has a laxative effect and is used for dry stools.
3. For treating angina pectoris in coronary heart disease, take 45 grams of Ophiopogon japonicus, decoct it in water to make 30-40 ml, and take it in divided doses for 3-18 months. It has a certain effect on relieving angina pectoris and chest tightness.
4. For treating chronic gastritis: Take 9 grams each of Ophiopogon japonicus and Astragalus membranaceus, and 10 grams each of Codonopsis pilosula, Polygonatum odoratum, and Polygonatum sibiricum. Decoct in water and take one dose daily. Effective for those with stomach yin deficiency.
5. For treating diabetes, use 30 grams of reed rhizome, 15 grams of ophiopogon root, and 12 grams of anemarrhena rhizome. First, simmer over low heat for 30 minutes, filter the decoction, add 500 ml of water to the dregs, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer over low heat for 20 minutes. Remove the dregs and collect the liquid. Combine the two decoctions and take one dose daily. This is used for diabetic patients experiencing thirst, dry throat, excessive drinking, restlessness, or low-grade fever, red tongue, and thready, rapid pulse.
6. Treatment of acute and chronic bronchitis: Ophiopogon japonicus, Asparagus cochinchinensis, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, Fritillaria cirrhosa, and Stemona japonica, 9 grams each; Adenophora stricta, 12 grams. Decoct in water and take one dose daily. This formula is suitable for acute and chronic bronchitis presenting with dry cough due to yin deficiency.
7. Treatment for Chronic Hepatitis and Early-Stage Cirrhosis: 5 eggs, 30g each of goji berries, peanuts, and lean pork, 10g of Ophiopogon japonicus, appropriate amounts of salt, cornstarch, and MSG. First, fry the peanuts until cooked. Wash the goji berries and blanch them briefly in boiling water. Wash the Ophiopogon japonicus, cook it in boiling water until tender, and chop it finely. Dice the lean pork. Beat the eggs in a bowl with a little salt, pour the beaten eggs into another bowl, steam until cooked, and then cut the cooked eggs into small pieces after cooling. Heat peanut oil in a wok over high heat, stir-fry the diced pork until cooked, then add the diced eggs, goji berries, and chopped Ophiopogon japonicus. Stir-fry evenly, add a little salt and thicken with cornstarch, season with MSG, and top with diced peanuts. Take twice daily as a side dish. This dish nourishes the liver and kidneys and is suitable for the adjunctive treatment of chronic hepatitis and early-stage cirrhosis.
