Commonly known as a "cold" or "flu," it refers to an infection of the nose, pharynx, and larynx (upper respiratory tract infection), which is the most common respiratory infectious disease. It is divided into two main categories based on the pathogen: viral and bacterial. Viral infections account for more than 90% of upper respiratory tract infections and are generally transmitted through virus-containing droplets or contaminated utensils. Bacterial infections can occur directly or secondary to viral infections, with hemolytic streptococci being the most common.

Clinically, it is characterized by fever, chills, headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, cough, sore throat, and hoarseness. The treatment strategy is to rapidly alleviate symptoms, shorten the course of the disease, and prevent complications. Bee products and their formulations have a good preventative effect against this condition.
