Cold-induced diarrhea: This type of diarrhea, caused by exposure to cold, presents with thin, frothy, pale stools with little odor, accompanied by intestinal rumbling and abdominal pain, or simultaneously with cold symptoms such as fever, nasal congestion, and runny nose. This type of diarrhea can be caused by either the breastfeeding mother catching a cold and transmitting it to the baby, or the baby catching a cold and developing diarrhea. Therefore, both the baby and mother need treatment.
I. Treatment methods for breastfeeding mothers:
Breastfeeding mothers should avoid taking cold medicine when they catch a cold. Practice has shown that dietary therapy and natural remedies can effectively treat colds caused by exposure to cold.
(1) Soak feet in water boiled with mugwort: Buy some mugwort from a pharmacy, take a small handful, add water and boil in a pot for 10-15 minutes, then soak your feet in the warm mugwort water. Use a deep bucket for soaking until you sweat all over to expel the cold. Then drink more warm boiled water. If you are more severely affected by cold, you can soak your feet several times a day until you feel no longer cold all over, have a stuffy nose, or a runny nose. At the same time, you should also pay attention to getting more rest.
(2) Drink ginger and brown sugar water: When the cold is severe and accompanied by cough, add a few cloves of garlic to the water and boil it together. If you can't sweat, you can add some green onions to boil together to dispel cold and induce sweating. Many people only drink ginger and brown sugar water once after catching a cold, thinking that as long as they drink it, they will be fine. In fact, in the early stage of catching a cold, ginger and brown sugar water should be drunk 3 times a day. On the second day, it can be drunk twice a day. On the third day, drink it again before going to bed. This way, the curative effect can be consolidated and the cold can be completely dispelled.
II. Treatment methods for the baby:
(1) Give the baby a hot bath to sweat it out, and then give him more boiled water.
(2) Boil 1-2 slices of ginger and half a spoonful of brown sugar in water for the baby to drink. If the baby does not want to drink spicy water, he/she can just drink brown sugar water, because brown sugar is also warming.
(3) Boil 3-4 cloves of garlic in water and give it to the baby to drink. As long as the garlic is boiled thoroughly, it will not have a spicy taste and will also have the effect of stopping diarrhea.
(4) Many places recommend applying ginger or garlic paste to the baby's navel to treat cold diarrhea. Parents may want to give it a try.
(5) Take 1-2 moxa sticks, light them, and hold them about 1 inch away from the baby's skin from the navel to the lower abdomen. Moxibustion should be applied back and forth for 10 minutes. Babies with frequent diarrhea can be treated 3 times a day. This method is simple and effective, but parents must be careful to flick off the ash from the moxa sticks to prevent it from falling onto the baby's delicate skin. It is best for a family member to hold the baby and control their hands and feet to prevent them from moving around and getting burned.
